JAMES ALLAN SMITH Peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2005, James Smith passed away at the Grace Hospital. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Patricia; son Kenneth John (Suzanne) of Vancouver; sister Jean (Mel) Leask of Edmonton; brother Robert of Rochester, NY; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Donald of Brandon; and sisters, Ethel Collier and Helen Burns. Jim was born on August 15, 1919. He was the youngest member of the family of the late Sheriff William A. and Mayme Smith of Minnedosa. Jim took his schooling in Minnedosa, followed by Business College in Winnipeg. He and Kay were married in the Old Log Church, Whitehorse, Yukon in 1946. He was employed with Trans Canada Airlines, followed by 37 years with the Meteorological Service of the Department of Transport and Environment Canada, retiring in 1978. Jim loved all sports. In his younger years, he was active in fastball, downhill skiing, fishing and hunting. In his later years, he was active in golf and curling. Following retirement, Jim and Kay enjoyed travelling in North America and overseas. The family would like to thank the staff on the fifth floor at the Grace Hospital for their loving care. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 17 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
