DOUGLAS ROBERT HAIMES 1925 - 2005 Dad passed away after a lengthy illness on February 13, 2005 in the Palliative Care Unit in the St. Boniface Hospital. He was predeceased by his mother Florence and his father Charles; brothers, Walter and Charlie; and sister Jean. He is loved and missed by his family, Marjorie, his wife of 58 years; daughter Bette Westall (Wilfred); son Bob (Kathy); son Doug (Sharleen); and his six grandchildren, Trevor, Colin, Brenna, Jeff, Chris and Shawn; sisters, Mina De Wolfe of London, ON, Margaret Nichols of Montreal, QC and Nettie Pulley of Kamloops, BC. Dad worked for the Winnipeg School Division No. 1 as a painter for 37 years. He was a very meticulous man and took great pride in his work. He made many friends along the way and always treated people with the utmost respect. He loved life and family, and was always there when you needed him. Dad was very athletic and enjoyed all kinds of sports. He loved curling and was a member of the Charleswood Curling Club for 50 years, where he was an Honorary Life Member. He represented Manitoba at the Canadian Deaf Curling Championship in Quebec in 1982. He also enjoyed many years of lawn bowling with the crew at Tuxedo Lawn Bowling Club. He represented Manitoba at the Canadian Lawn Bowling Championship in Halifax in 1987. Thanks to the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital and the staff in the Oncology Department at the Grace Hospital for taking such good care of him during his illness. Thanks also to Dr. Smart, Dr. Harris, Dr. Milner and the homecare workers and providers. Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 18 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. We know you are happy being reunited with those that have gone before you. We love you Dad. Rest in Peace.
