Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryREV. CANON RALPH LEONARD JACOBS March 11, 1914 - February 14, 2005 Dad died peacefully at Eriksdale Personal Care Home at 7:00 Monday morning. Dad was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the Elmwood area. A strong motivation throughout Dad's life was his time spent under the spiritual guidance of Father and Mrs. Park at St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church as server and choirboy. Dad was active in the Scouts movement. This adventurous sprit carried him to England in 1938. A lack of resources forced him to return home via tramp steamer. In 1940 Dad met Jean Goodman from the Swan River valley who was the pillar of strength throughout his life. Their wedding on June 30, 1941 was a Benito bridal pretty event of mid week. Dad spent the war years in the Royal Canadian Winnipeg Rifles and gained the rank of Company Sergeant Major. He served in several posts across Canada. The legion remained a service post for Dad in each community he lived in. Mom and Dad resided and worshipped in Winnipeg, Dauphin, Dundern, SK, Scandia, AB, Thunderhill, Pelican Rapids (Shoal River), Birtle, Minnedosa, Grand Forks, BC and Eriksdale. Together they raised five children. Dad had spent many years as a layreader and in 1964 was ordained as a priest in the Anglican Church. After several years in the Brandon diocese Mom and Dad semi-retired to Grand Forks, BC. Together they enjoyed 18 years of reduced church responsibilities replaced by gardens, orchards, and friendships, when father finally learned how NOT to cultivate the garden. A highlight of every grandchild's visit was the trip to the basement and grandpa's model railroad. Dad loved to sing and play the piano. We can remember the piano playing in the background as we drifted off to sleep. Dad is survived by Robert, Allan (Ann), Alvin (Eileen), William, and Margaret (Lloyd); grandchildren, Neil Jacobs, Kenneth Jacobs, Kristina Jacobs, Kevin Jacobs, Geoffrey Jacobs, and Joanne Gutknecht; great-grandson Dakotah Pisiak; Jean's siblings, Charles Goodman, Dorothy Banks and sister-in-law Esther Goodman; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Service to take place on Thursday, February 17 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 299 Balderstone Rd, Middlechurch. Interment and lunch to follow. A special service for staff and residents of Eriksdale Personal Care Home will be held on Saturday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Eriksdale Personal Care Home.
