HEDWIG SCHULZ (nee REIMER) It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mom Hedwig Schulz on February 12, 2005. She leaves behind her daughters, Monika Mueller and Evelyn Schulz and her son-in-law Mark. Also left to cherish her memory are her stepmother Katja Reimer; brother Ewald Reimer (Eleonore); sisters, Ingrid Neufeld (Reinhard), Hildegard Loewen (Albert) and their families; sisters-in-law, Annchen Boge, and Helene Fast (Eduard); and brother-in-law Bill Unruh (Eileen) and their families. Hedwig was born in the Chaco, Paraguay on July 9, 1942. She grew up on the family ranch and attended school in a nearby village until grade 8. At the age of 17, our mother lost her own mother. She was left to care for her three younger siblings which she did with love and diligence. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith at the age of 19. Hedwig left the ranch for the city of Asuncion, Paraguay at age 19. She found work at the MCC Heim. She developed many friendships during her seven years there. She was admired for both her sense of humour and extraordinary work ethic. In her mid-20s, mom was presented with the opportunity of coming to Canada to work. She worked in Winnipeg and became a member of Springfield Mennonite Church. In September of 1973 Mom met the love of her life, Cornelius. After a short courtship, they were married on February 23, 1974. God blessed them with two daughters, Monika, and Evelyn. The next 17 years were the most wonderful, joy-filled years of her life. After the passing of her husband on October 10, 1992 and her father on November 15, 1992, the rheumatoid arthritis that began at the age of 21 now severely manifested itself. She underwent surgeries to replace both hips and knees. Through all her physical suffering, our mom continued to find joy in many things. She loved flowers, reading and visits from people. Mom was a longtime member of North Kildonan MB Church. She found fulfilment in her work on the church's prayer chain and loved attending Monday night Frauenverein. On February 12, Jesus took her tired hands and led her home. Though her passing was extremely sudden, we find peace in knowing that Mom feels no more pain and is rejoicing with Dad in heaven. Funeral service to be held Monday, February 21 at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Rd., at 11:00 a.m. Should friends desire, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
