Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE SYLVIA BLAKE (nee VERMEULEN) February 26, 1938 - February 14, 2005 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Irene, Mom, Nana (beloved wife of the late Donald Blake, 1973) after her long courageous battle, mom passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital. Left to cherish her memory is her sister Jean (Allan); daughter Lynn (Cam) of Halifax, NS; son James (Marg) of Mapleridge, BC; her grandchildren, Andrea and Brittany, Cody and Matthieu, Isaac and Amber; nieces, Janice, Sandy, Carol and numerous cousins and friends. Mom always loved having a picture of her newest great-niece Annika, whom she adored, with her during her hospital stay. Mom was predeceased by her mother Adrienne, father Gaston and sister Darlene. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ron Blake (Celine) of Winnipeg and sister-in-law Trudy Buckler of Surrey, BC. Irene was born in St. Boniface, MB on February 26, 1938. Mom was a hard worker and did her best to provide for her children for many years. She worked at Canada Safeway, and also worked at the Bank of Montreal for 13 years and home care worker for five years. Mom loved her volunteer work at the Victoria General Hospital and was in the 2004 Victoria guild calendar. Mom also was a member of the Catholics Women League for over 40 years. Lynn, James and the family would like to thank Dr. Kroeker, Dr. Werier and the many nurses and doctors at the Victoria Hospital for their care and kindness to mom over the last year. We would also wish to acknowledge her caregivers, Jean and Allan Knight, Sharon and Ed Lannoo, Shirley Vermeulen, Evelyn Lane, Lydia West and John Weibe who visited and cared for mom during her illness when we could not be there. There will be a viewing that will take place at the Voyage Funeral Home Crematorium, 1531 Pembina Hwy., Saturday, February 19 between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. A celebration of Irene's life will take place at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. on Monday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m., Fr. Carl Tarnopolski to officiate. There will be a burial at St. Vital RC Cemetery at 826 Crescent Dr. and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 1531 Pembina Hwy. 284-7500
