ELSIE SCHELLENBERG DYCK Elsie, who turned 91 on January 6, fell asleep peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 while in the compassionate care of the staff and volunteers at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Her children and two granddaughters were present at her bedside. She was an amazing woman who never tired of following her dreams of comfort and happiness for herself and her family. Born in 1914 near McTavish MB to Annie and Gustav Schellenberg, she remembers a carefree childhood on the homestead. When Elsie was six years old her mother died, leaving eight young children. Her school years were spent in the care of her teenage sisters and father, and later with the David Friesens, and their sons, Peter, Frank, Abe, John and Dave. Jacob Reimer Dyck and Elsie married in 1937 and had two children, Dolores (John) Lohrenz and Roger (Doreen) Dyck. She had close, loving relationships with her six grandchildren, Brenda Lohrenz (Dragan Duvnjak), Chris (Brenda) Dyck, Brad (Dominika) Wranik-Lohrenz, Ray (Joanna) Lohrenz, Sheri (Gary) Wasilewski, and Laureen Dyck, and adored her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica, Tymonek, Yurek, Jacob, Kali, Luka and MacKenzie. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob in 1979; and siblings, Bertha Dueck, Annie Dyck, Martha Dueck and John Schellenberger. Missing her besides her immediate family are sister Helen Dueck; brothers, Bill and Art Schellenberg plus relatives and friends in Morris and Fort Richmond as well as many friends at Bethel Place where she happily made her home for 16 years. After her children settled in school, Elsie began a 30-year career with the Morris Hospital in charge of food services and laundry. After studying Housekeeping at the University of Lansing, Michigan, she became Administrative Housekeeper of the Morris Hospital which eventually included the Emerson Hospital. She retired in 1979 to Loyola Bay in Fort Richmond. Mother never lost her spirit of adventure and remained passionate about gardening, quilting, stamp collecting, old coins and antiques. Her positive nature made her a delight to be with and continues to give us a beautiful example to follow. You know your family loves you! If desired, donations may be made to Bethel Place, 445 Stafford or The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo St. north. The funeral will be held on Monday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bethel Mennonite Church (Stafford and Carter), with viewing prior to the service. Lunch will follow. Burial will be at the Morris Cemetery in the family plot. ENJOY HEAVEN'S WONDERS MORRIS FUNERAL HOME 746-2451 Toll Free 1-866-746-2451
