SHAPIRO Peacefully, with his family at his bedside, Fred passed away at the Riverview Health Centre on Friday February 11, 2005 at age 76 following a lengthy illness. Fred was the only child of Charles and Mary Shapiro (Tabachnick) and leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Rosalie; children Carla (Barney Sneiderman), Penny (Joel Shefrin), and Jack (Lyn Barnwell-Shapiro); grandchildren Jamie and Jason Globerman, Miriam and Robby Sneiderman, and great-granddaughter Taylor Kowalenko-Globerman Fred was a longtime employee of Kay's Limited and later went into business for himself at Hochman's Footwear. He was a Past Grand Master of William Douglas Masonic Lodge, a present member of King Edward Lodge, and an active member of the Shrine Khartoum Temple Director's Staff. Dad especially enjoyed volunteering at the Shrine circus every year. Graveside services were held at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park on February 13 with Rabbi Henry Balser officiating. Pallbearers were: Jack Shapiro, Jamie and Jason Globerman, Joel Shefrin, Dr. Phil Barnes and Fred's cousin Ron Kay. Honorary pallbearer was Barney Sneiderman. The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks to Drs. Wayne Manishen and Fiona Crow and the entire staff on 3E at the Riverview Health Centre for their care and kindness to both Fred and our family. Those wishing to honour Fred's memory may make a donation to the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
