ANNA TORWART (Nee Schroeder) It is with great sadness that we announce on Thursday, February 17, 2005 Anna was called to her Eternal Home. Anna was predeceased by her husband Oscar, her sisters, Margaret, Betty, Kay and her brother Jake. Anna is survived by her daughter Frances Mitchell; her son Terry (Evelyn), and grandsons, Murray Mitchell, Brett and Ian Torwart and numerous nieces and nephews. Anna was born in Sommerfeld, MB on November 14, 1921, the third of five children. She spent her childhood and youth in the villages of southern Manitoba and Altona. She moved to Winnipeg with her parents and siblings in the early 1940's. Anna and Oscar were married on October 16, 1943. They settled in Fort Garry, where they raised their family and remained long-term residents in the area. Mum worked for many years in the nursery at the Victoria General Hospital where she loved every baby she saw. Mum had a passion for gardening. She always said I'll garden in the daytime; I can always do housework after dark. With our long Manitoba summer days, the garden was always awesome! Winter evenings were spent on knitting, crocheting, pottery, and other crafts. Once retired, Mum became a resident at Delta Manor where she made many friends and became involved with the Delta Manor Crafts Group. At one time her sisters, Betty and Margaret also lived in the block. Special thanks to the Unit 5 South staff at Victoria General Hospital. To the Pastors, Deacons, and members of the congregation of Bethel Mennonite Church we thank you for your prayers, visits and support. A celebration of Anna's life will take place at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 22nd at Bethel Mennonite Church, 870 Carter Avenue. Viewing will be between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, R3A 1P6 or to a charity of your choice.
