JESSIE VICTORIA LECKETT October 24, 1912 - February 17, 2005 Peacefully on February 17, 2005, Jessie (Josephine) passed away at the Holy Family Nursing Home with her son Victor at her side. Jessie was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1991; and her sister Anne Joss in 2002. She leaves to mourn her sons, Edward (Marsha), Montreal, Victor (Marjorie), Winnipeg, Walter (Beverley), Regina; and daughter Marguerite (Bill) Kostynuik, Calgary. Also left to mourn are her loving grandchildren, Blaine Leckett, California, Neil (Anita) Leckett, Ottawa, Peter (Sharon) Kostynuik, Andrew (Debbie) Kostynuik, Joseph (Nikki) Kostynuik, Roberta (Rod) Talmage, Cameron Leckett, Kristen (Lorne) Rouire; and 13 great-grandchildren; as well as her sisters, Lou Jankiewicz, Sophie Kulesza; sister-in-law Freda Kozak; and many nieces and nephews. Mom and Dad lived on McDermot Avenue most of their married life and were longtime parishioners of St. Edward's Church. Jessie was an active member of the Catholic Women's League and also spent many enjoyable years singing in the church choir. Bill and Jess were also active members of the West End Seniors Centre. She was an avid Blue Jays fan and when not watching baseball, you could find her playing bingo at the community centre across the street. While in Holy Family, Jessie would enjoy passing the time of day by knitting children's mitts, toques, slippers and so on. The items not snapped up by the grandchildren were readily passed on to charity. The family would like to thank the Holy Family Nursing Home staff (St. Paul's Ward) for the compassionate care they gave to Mom during her stay. Prayers will be held on Sunday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, 3597 Main St., West St. Paul, with Rev. Msgr. L. McCloskey as celebrant. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jessie's memory may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba, 114 - 233 Kennedy St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J5.
