HELEN SINCLAIR Helen was born June 4, 1915 in Wingham, Ontario and moved to Toronto at the age of 12. She was the youngest child of Norman Tooke and Jean Isabel Sinclair, and the younger sister of Kathleen Sinclair. As a young teenager she moved to Winnipeg and lived here until the time of her death. Helen grew up in a household that valued education, community life and political awareness. She loved politics throughout her lifetime. Helen's father had a strong commitment and belief that the more fortunate men and women in society should not pursue employment opportunities while those fortunate needed employment to survive. As a result of this belief, Helen earned a BA and a BSC from the University of Manitoba during the depression years. Helen began her employment as a war temp in a newsroom of the CBC in Winnipeg. She remained working in public relations with the CBC throughout her years of employment. Helen enjoyed gardening and reading. She was particularly fond of historical reading material. She travelled worldwide with her sister and in earlier times with her mother. A favourite form of vacation was a cruise on a ship. Her loving sister Kathleen who was her companion, friend and confidante survives Helen. A memorial service will be held February 24, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. at Portsmouth Retirement Centre, 125 Portsmouth Blvd. THOMSON IN THE PARK Funeral Home and Cemetery 1291 McGillivray Blvd - 925-1120

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Jack and I read yesterday of Helen's passing. I worked for one year in P.R. before going on to the Farm Department. This was in the late 50's. Helen was a fine lady with a great sense of humour. As a young gal, she inspired me to sew garments that I felt were beyond my expertise and I was thankful for that. Hope you read this, Kay.
