THELMA PERLMUTTER With great sadness we announce the passing of Thelma Perlmutter on January 30, 2005. Thelma (Rosen) Perlmutter was born on April 21, 1917 in Winnipeg, MB. She was predeceased by her husband, Chinny, after 62 years of marriage. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Sheila; her son Arie; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ed and Betty Baizer and Boomy and Sam Roitman. She is survived by her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Bert and Pearl Perlmutter, Marie Perlmutter and many nieces and nephews. Thelma felt like a mother to her youngest sister, Boomy, and a grandmother to her special nieces, Debby, Lesley and Harriet. She adored children and was an exuberant admirer of David, Ivy, Rachel, Mikaela, Matthew, Ryan, Tali (the Dolly), Samantha and Joey (Smiley). She was an accomplished athlete who met the love of her life at the age of 15, while playing baseball. She remained active in sports until her latter years, equally enthusiastic as a golfer and a badminton player. Thelma was a boisterous spectator of many sports. She was an avid fan and season ticket holder for the Winnipeg Jets, where she made some like-minded, young friends who affectionately referred to her as mom . Thelma and Chinny enjoyed many winter vacations in Los Angeles, generously hosted by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ed Baizer. Thelma was a kind, generous person who showed her compassionate nature by taking many detours to drive strangers, in need, to their destinations. She had a strong dislike of injustice and would intervene when she saw someone being harassed. Her kind, loving nature was apparent to anyone who saw this woman of very small physical stature (4'11 ) carrying her 90 lb arthritic dog. In her spare time she would knit for her loved ones and for the Cancer Society. As a volunteer, she taught school children to knit. The family wishes to convey sincere appreciation to the extremely kind friends and relatives who provided support and comfort during this difficult time. Many thanks to the home-care people who provided assistance and to the caring staff of Victoria Hospital. Funeral services were held on February 1, 2005 at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery with Rabbi Balser officiating. Pallbearers were Martin Bricker, Hersh Doctoroff, Laurie Goldberg, Bill Perlmutter, Shane Perlmutter and Stephen Perlmutter.
