Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHEODORE SCHILLBERG On February 18, 2005 at Middlechurch Home, Theodore Schillberg, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather entered into eternal peace. Born in Kaluga, Russia on August 23, 1916 he was the last of his nine siblings. Predeceased by his son-in-law, Larry Lennon in 1986. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Lydia (nee Krueger); five children, Sigi (Marilyn), Anita (Wayne), Ferdinand (Anne), Arthur (Marianne) and Peter (Kathy); eight grandchildren, Karen, Suzanne, Kenneth, Alisha, Ian, Erin, Jessica and Eric; three great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Kelsey and Amy. In 1951 Ted and Lydia, along with their then three children made the long journey to Canada in search of a better life for themselves, their children and future generations. He was never to return to his homeland. Dad was a gifted craftsman and carpenter. He was employed at a variety of positions before joining the City of Winnipeg maintenance department where he worked until his retirement. In the early 50s Dad purchased a lot at Red Rock Lake in the Whiteshell. During the first few years Dad would load his VW Bug with bricks and lumber. Then with our Mom, our aunt and uncle and his now four children, he would head out to the lake in the early Sunday morning hours. The day was spent cutting trees and building a small shelter. He cleared the land, built a cabin, a dock and a row boat all without a single power tool. His foresight and hard work gave his family a wonderful legacy of the love of the outdoors. Which is now passed to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our Dad had definite ideas of how work should be done and did not hesitate to grant anyone the benefit of his expertise. He enjoyed a game of cribbage (especially when he won) many evenings at the lake were spent playing cards with family and friends. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff on D2 at Middlechurch Home for their kind and compassionate care given to our Dad. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Visitation will be offered at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Monday, February 21 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m., with reception will follow.
