Rudy was predeceased by his loving wife Pearl (nee Crawford) in 1989; his parents, Fredrick in 1942 and Olga Kamke in 1963; by his brother William (Bill) in 1996; and brother-in-law Bob Leitch in 1997. Rudy was a beloved husband, brother, uncle and a true and loving friend to many. Rudy was born on the family farm in Libau, MB on March 18, 1918. He served in the Second World War in the army for four years, mostly in Holland, also in France, Belgium and Germany. His main duty was driving the Ford artillery tractor. After the war, he married Pearl. He had purchased land to operate Rudy's Esso Service and Pearl's Cafe Bar in Grand Marias on Highway 59. Rudy was an avid builder and inventor. He would make things to make someone's life better and easier for them. Even though Rudy and Pearl didn't have children of their own, they made all their nieces and nephews feel very special, especially at Christmas time. Rudy took loving care of Pearl during her last 10 years and recently brother Manuel for eight and a half years. He was all heart. Rudy enjoyed playing cards especially cribbage, and was thrilled to be dealt a 29 hander on December 11, 2003. Rudy's dream was to invent a perpetual motion machine, always trying to perfect it by spending hours on end without ever giving up. Also, he truly enjoyed having his nephews John and Dave visit him and share the same interests as he did. Pallbearers will be his nephews, John Kamke, David Kamke, Ken Kamke, Wayne Leitch, Len Bergman, Jack Shkolny, Andrew Bell, and Benjamin Bergman. Honorary pallbearer will be Allen Hart. A Celebration of Rudy's Life will be held on Thursday, February 24 at the Grand Marais Anglican Church in Grand Marais, viewing at 1:30 p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Jack Fish Lake with reception to follow at the Grand Marais Anglican Church Hall.
