JOSEPH HEINRICH BLEI 1927 - 2005 Peacefully, on Sunday, February 20, 2005, due to complications after winning a lengthy battle with cancer, at Seven Oaks Hospital. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Johann and Martha; his sister Hanneliese and her husband Robert and his niece Martina and nephew Bernd. Left to remember and mourn are his wife of 47 years, Mary; his three daughters, Lisa (Monty), Patti (Dennis) and Nancy (Derek); his five grandchildren, Allison, Robert, Matthew, Hillary and Kaylee. Additionally, Joe will sorrowfully be missed by his sisters, Karola (Rudi) and Luise (Peter) of Germany and Leni (Larry) of the USA. As well, he will be greatly missed by his in-laws, Dorothy and Don, Theresa and Erhard, John and Anne, many nieces, nephews and friends around the world. His cat Smokey will also be missing her master. Born July 22, 1927 in Kelkheim, Germany, where he grew up in turbulent times. For a time, he entered a Monastery as a Brother. Joe moved to Winnipeg in 1954, where he began work as a moulder in a foundry. He then moved to Atikokan, where he worked as deck hand on the dredges. After Joe returned to Winnipeg, he trained and worked as a Power Engineer for MTS and later at the Winnipeg convention Centre until his retirement. Joe was deeply involved with his churches and many clubs, including the German Society, the Kolping Society, St. Hubertus Game and Fish and Selkirk Game and Fish. He loved the hunting and outdoors. He was also an avid photographer, documenting many weddings. In particular he took many famous pictures of the Queen and other dignitaries during the Manitoba Centennial. Joe loved to travel and did so extensively. In addition to his many trips to Germany and Europe he loved Africa and Australia. During his journeys he made a great many friends who kept in touch with him throughout his life. The family would like to thank Dr. R. Nason, Dr. A. Cook, Dr. J. Hayakawa, nurse Glenda and all others' who cared for Joseph during his illness. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Mountain and Andrews, with Rev. Fr. Diosdado Parrenas officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Joseph's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of your choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
