JULIA CATHERINE MCDONALD It is with sorrow that the family announce the death of their mother Julia McDonald who died peacefully on February 20, 2005, at the age of 103 after a brief illness. Julia gave generously of her time to community organizations and her church. She served on the Board of Clandeboye United Church for several years, convened the Church's Annual Fowl Dinners, was chairperson for the local Red Cross, participated in Community Club fund raising activities, and held a variety of positions in the Eastern Star. One of her proudest accomplishment was the 78 years associated with the position of organist of Clandeboye United Church. It was Julia's unselfish contribution of time and effort to a variety of organizations and most specifically to Red Cross efforts during the Second World War that made her a candidate for the Caring Canadian Award which was presented to her in 1997 by Governor General Romeo LeBlanc. As Julia saw it, she was blessed with an abundance of good friends. The family is truly grateful for the generous acts of kindness of her many friends, her neighbours in the Lions Centre, and family relatives. It was the kind assistance of others which enabled Julia to retain a form of independent living to her death. Julia's profound religious conviction was a constant source of strength throughout her life and always a guiding force in her personal activities and relationships. Julia was predeceased by all her siblings; her husband Clarence; and two sons-in-law, Tom Kizuik and Walter Yessie. Left to mourn her passing are her six children, Verna of Corunna, ON; Donald and wife Rita of Maple Ridge; Muriel of Winnipeg; Raymond and wife June of Winnipeg; Clarice and husband Cecil of Ottawa and Lorne and wife Ruth of Mississauga; as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Clandeboye United Church Memorial Fund, or to a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Clandeboye United Church with Rev. Marilyn Anderson-Corkum and Rev. Hugo Unruh officiating. Interment to follow in the churchyard cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
