Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJ. ERNEST (ERNIE) DEAN Peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2005, Ernie Dean passed away at Poseidon Care Centre at the age of 88 years. Ernie was predeceased by his wife Angela (Nell) of 59 years. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his son Dennis and Patricia; grandchildren, Robert (Michelle), Shelley Shepherd (Scott); great-granddaughter Kinsey; son David and Glenda; granddaughters, Melissa, Tanis and Kimberly. He was predeceased by his brother Herbert; and sisters, Edna, Helen and Mildred. Ernie was born in St. Boniface on December 24, 1916. During the Second World War, he served overseas with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. After returning to Canada, he joined the City of Winnipeg Police Department where he spent the next 30 years before retiring on January 2, 1977. Ernie was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. James Council where he served as Grand Knight from 1970 to 1972. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Captain Miles MacDonnell Assembly of the Knights of Columbus. He served nine years as the State Warden and many years as Chairman of the I.C.C.D. Charity Drive. The Ernie Dean Award is presented annually to the Council achieving the highest sales. Together with his wife Nell, he spent many wonderful summers at the family cottage at Winnipeg Beach. The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff of the Poseidon Care Centre for the sincere care and attention provided our father over the last three years. Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus St. James Council. The Honour Guard will be members of the Fourth Degree Captain Miles MacDonnell Assembly. A prayer service will be held on Thursday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Edward's Church, 818 Arlington St., with Msgr. L. McCloskey officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
