Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT JAMES (BOB) MCLAUGHLIN Peacefully and with dignity, on February 22, 2005 at the Seven Regions Health Centre, Gladstone, Robert James (Bob) McLaughlin, aged 79 years, passed away. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Verna, of 56 years; his son Terry (Donna) of Gladstone; his daughter Glenda (Glen) McDowell of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Shauna (Glenn) Bjarnarson, Jimmy (Dawn-Lee) McLaughlin, Jody (Kelly) Gale, and Ryan (Corri) McDowell; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Kayla, and Eric Bjarnarson, Hunter McLaughlin, Tyler and Megan Gale; and extended family, Eric and Diane Schlamb and family. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Charles McLaughlin, and infant sister. Bob was born June 23, 1925 in Portage la Prairie, MB and grew up in Langruth. In 1946, Bob moved to Gladstone where he met his life partner, Verna Porter. Bob began his career as an owner-operator of the Ford dealership in Gladstone. Throughout this time he also served as a funeral director and provided the ambulance service to the area. In 1959, Bob became the branch automotive manager for Brown Murray of Neepawa. In 1973, he opened Mac's Auto Supply Ltd. in Gladstone, and his son Terry joined the business in 1974. Bob retired in 1985 due to health problems. Bob was active within the community where he played hockey, baseball, and curled. He was a member of the Gladstone United Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Order of The Eastern Star, the Gladstone Legion, and he received a 25 year service plaque from the Gladstone Fire Department. Bob was deeply interested and involved in the daily lives and activities of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gladstone United Church with Rev. Bob Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at the Gladstone Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made to Seven Regions Palliative Care, Box 374, Gladstone, MB R0J 0T0, or to a charity of one's choice.
