ELSIE MAY BOWMAN (nee RIDYARD) It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of their dearly beloved mother and grandmother, Elsie Bowman, aged 85, on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband, Alex in 1990. She was also predeceased by her parents, John and Annie Ridyard and her sisters, Edna Ridyard and Anne Burke. She will be sadly missed by son Jack and wife Joan of Brentwood Bay, BC and their sons, Brian and Scott of Toronto, ON; son Bruce and wife Bette and their daughter Shannon and son Shaun of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her nephews, Neil Burke and Ron Burke and their families. Elsie also leaves to mourn special family relatives Ruth and Christine Byquist and many friends. Elsie was born on March 22, 1919 in The Pas, MB and there she met and married Alex Bowman in 1942. During the war, Alex and Elsie lived in Brandon, Calgary and New Westminster before returning to The Pas where both her sons were born. The family moved to Selkirk in 1955, then to Winnipeg in 1959. Elsie, Alex and family enjoyed many summer holidays at her favourite place, the cottage at Clearwater Lake near The Pas. She loved to entertain family and friends including playing cards. She will always be remembered for her wonderful baking, her creative knitting and her life long love of music. Elsie was a member of the Broadway Disciples United Church and religion was an important part of her life. She was also a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Selkirk). At Elsie's wishes, cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at Broadway Disciples United Church, 396 Broadway, Winnipeg, on Friday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Ray Cuthbert officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St, Winnipeg R3C 4G2 or to Broadway Disciples United Church Memorial Fund, 396 Broadway, Winnipeg R3C 0V6. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the relatives and friends for their warm support during Elsie's illness. A very special thank you goes to the nurses and staff of AB2 at Riverview Health Centre for years of care and compassion, and especially to Lynn Saunders, Recreation Facilitator at Riverview.
