ELWOOD HOLDEN It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Elwood (El) Holden on February 22, 2005, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all he met. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Eileen; and sons, Bob (Debbie), Earl (Val), Kent (Leslie), Darrell (Sharlene) and Blair (Nancy). He will also be missed by his 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Eileen, Marg (John); and brother Leslie (Edith). Elwood proudly volunteered and served in the Nova Scotia Highlanders in the Italian Campaign during the Second World War. While in officer training in England he met his future bride Eileen. They fell deeply in love and were married a short three months later. Dad and his new bride returned to Winnipeg to start their new life together. There they had their five sons and life became interesting. This summer they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Elwood was a master beer brewer, a great fisherman, an avid gardener, and loved berry picking at their cottage at Victoria Beach. If you wanted to know anything about history you could always ask Dad. He was truly a brilliant man. We would like to thank West Jet flight 1328, the Captain, the crew, and the passengers who courageously fought to save our father - although we do not know your names we thank you, God bless you. We would also like to thank the members of the Midland County Texas Crisis Intervention Unit (Lori, Kay, Carol, Debbie, Ula, Joe, and Betty) You were like angels sent from heaven. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday, February 28 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will also be held in the Glen Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Dad's name to the charity of your choice. Until we meet again Love always Eileen Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550

Never in my life will I meet a greater man than you, Grandpa. You were always so kind and caring to everyone. I will always remember the donuts & milkshakes you gave us for breakfast when we slept over, and all the stories you told us. I wish we had more time and that we could have said good-bye, but I am greatfull that the love of your life was with you when you were taken from us so suddenly. I will miss you dearly, and love you always. Your memory will live on forever in all of our hearts. - Posted by: Tamara Holden (Family) on: Mar 01, 2005

Grandpa was the greatest friend anyone could ever ask for. He was kind to all creatures, be they family, friends, strangers or animals. He was never to busy to do things with his grandchildren, like play a rousing game of Ker-Plunk, or have his giant goldfish nibble on the end of your finger. Our baby will be born this spring, and we know Grandpa will be proudly watching. He will be with us forever, for his spirit continues to live in all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will miss you Grandpa, you were one of the best. - Posted by: Curtis and Candice Holden (Family) on: Feb 28, 2005

All the forest animals here at Victoria Beach will miss Elwood dearly, especially his chipmunk friends. The neighbours on Zeglinski Crescent will miss all his wealth of knowledge as to plumbing etc questions. He was a very kind man. Our deepest sympathies for all the family. - Posted by: Kim & Peter Turcottte (Friend) on: Feb 28, 2005

You were an amazing man and your taught us alot and we will never forget you, you brought such wisdom to us and our sons , Cody, Austin and Jessie. They loved there great-papa and will miss you especially your little buddy Austin. They know you will be watching over them now and that will make your not being here somewhat a little more acceptable. We love you and you will never be forgotten. - Posted by: KIM AND MIKE SILVAGGIO (Family) on: Feb 26, 2005
