She was predeceased by her husband John Dehn (1999); her parents, Paul and Hertha Bauschke; brothers, August, Willy, Eric, Fred and sisters, Augusta Ferchoff and Minnie Bloch. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children, Leonard (Marlene) of Lockport, Verna (John) Holmes of Richmond, BC, Lloyd of Selkirk and Helena (Jack) Evans of Winnipeg; ten grandchildren, Kelly (Nori), Murray (Elaine), David (Ginette), Peter (Nicole), Lisa (Danny), John (Kayla), Gordon (Amanda), Alan (Jacqui), Kelly and Michael; nine great-grandchildren, Alex, Brigham, John Thomas, Tyler, Abigail, Grace, Benjamin, Ella and Ashley; her sisters, Erna Reinhardt of Vernon and Gertie Cookson of Chilliwack, BC; sister-in-law Minnie Bauschke of Winnipeg and brother-in-law Herman Bloch of Chilliwack, BC and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha Dehn was born March 13, 1909 in Greenwald, MB, the fifth of 12 children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Thalberg Lutheran Church and also sang in the church choir. On May 17, 1937 she married John Dehn. Soon after their marriage, they operated a grocery store and a post office in Dencross. Because of the crossroads and the name - Dehn, the post office was called Dencross . The place was humming with activity - the general store, post office, blacksmithing (by John) and P.S.V. Transfer service. In 1947, they moved to Lockport and started farming. She was an amazing cook and always managed a wonderful garden of flowers and vegetables. She loved to sew and crochet. Her life and interests centered around the raising and care of her family and later in life her grandchildren were most important to her. She was a kind and gentle woman and always willing to extend a helping hand. She was a devout Christian. She regularly attended and enjoyed the Hymn Sing and church programs at Betel. We will cherish our precious memories of her. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. in the Selkirk Evangelical Lutheran Church, 329 Clandeboye Avenue with Pastor Richards officiating. Interment to follow in the Lutheran Cemetery, Mapleton, MB. Viewing at church one hour prior to service. Pallbearers: grandsons, Kelly, Murray and Gordon Dehn, David and Peter Holmes, Michael Evans. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the wonderful staff at Betel Home for their tender loving care and for truly creating a special home away from home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bertha may be made to the Selkirk Evangelical Lutheran Church, Box 65, Selkirk, MB R1A 2B1. Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB in care of arrangements. Phone: 482-3271.
