Date of Passing: Dec 21, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHRYN EDITH MILES Our beloved mother, Kathryn Edith Miles, passed away December 21, 2004 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Harry, two brothers, two sisters and a son-in-law Bob Rose. Left to mourn are her daughters, Joanne (Bob McGregor), Lois Rose; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Kathryn was born in Grand Forks, ND on November 13, 1906. She was the youngest of five children born to Patrick and Johanna Flynn, who, with their baby son, Joe, had moved west to North Dakota from Seaforth, ON. When Kathryn was a young girl, the family moved to Prince Albert, SK where they resided in a big white house at 4th Avenue 15th Street West. Mother was schooled at the Academy of Sion Convent where she played girls baseball and took long walks at lunch hours with friends, always accompanied by two nuns. She often talked about snow shoeing on the Saskatchewan River and having bonfires in the pines across the bridge. Mother never lost her interest in politics. One of her favourite memories was about her brother Joe, a died-in-the-wool-Liberal, who, while driving uptown was inadvertently caught up in a local Conservative Party parade. His family and friends enjoyed it immensely! Politics was fun in those days. Before her marriage to dad, mother was a proofreader at the Prince Albert Daily Herald. After moving to Flin Flon in the early 40s, she continued to work with dad at the Flin Flon Daily Miner. Our beloved mother was a kind and loving woman, as talented in baking and bread-making as at the game of bridge, which she enjoyed for many years in Flin Flon and, later, in Winnipeg. She was a volunteer at the Flin Flon General Hospital, the CWL and the Girl Guides. She loved her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren with all her heart. We miss her bright and beautiful presence in our lives. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on March 5, 2005 at St. John Brebeuf Church, on Lanark Street (one block south of Corydon Avenue).
