MARGARET HELEN REID (nee ZIMMERMAN) Margaret Reid, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at the age of 89. Margaret was born to Adolph and Dorothea Zimmerman in Whitemouth, Manitoba on March 5, 1915, the second oldest of 13 children. She was predeceased by her parents, Adolph and Dorothea and by her husband Allan Reid in January 1990; her brothers, Carl Zimmerman, Rudy Zimmerman and Philip Zimmerman; sisters, Betty Essenchuk and Evelyn Herron. She is survived by her sisters and their families, Helen Cadieux (Kenora, ON), Dorothy (Donald) Coulter, (Keewatin, ON), Eva Olson (Kenora, ON), Hilda Sveinsson (Keewatin), brothers and their families, Adolph (Olive) Zimmerman (B.C.), August (Inga) Zimmerman, (Point Du Bois, MB), Harvey (Ellie) Zimmerman (Beausejour, MB) and sister-in-law Carol Zimmerman and family of (Whitemouth, MB). Although having no children of her own, there are several nieces and nephews who will always remember their Auntie Marg . During her younger years, Margaret worked in the airplane factory during the war, and at Eaton's in Toronto. Margaret and her husband Al lived in British Columbia and then Toronto for many years and upon retirement, relocated to Central America for 15 years and then returned to Manitoba. Margaret was a lover of animals and nature and liked nothing better than to spend time on the family homestead, gardening and taking long walks on the land. She was an avid birdwatcher, as well as a wealth of knowledge of anything growing, both wild and tame on the land. She was a true earth person and enjoyed the simple things in life. There will be immediate cremation and upon her request, there will be no service. Rest in peace THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 783-7211

  • My Cousin Marg stayed with our family during the war years. To us she was C Mary because my name is Margaret too. I was Margaret's maid of honour when she married Allan. I have such great memories of her both of the times when she lived with us, when she visited us at Lake Brereton and then again when we visited in Toronto. I am compiling our family genealogy.   • Mrs.Reid was a regular customer of mine at Taco Time in St.Vital Mall. She was so sweet, everyone liked her and was saddened to hear of her passing. She always had a smile for us.
