ZIGMUNT CHURKO With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Zig Churko, our dearly beloved husband, father, grampa and friend on February 27, 2005 at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 89 years. Zig was predeceased by his parents, Sophie and Joseph; brothers, Walter (Jenny), Cas (Nell); sister Carrie (Carl); and brother-in-law Mike. He will be remembered by his loving wife of 48 years, June; daughter Terry (Richard); son Roger (Susan); grandchildren, Curtis, Zane and Randi; brother Charlie (Anne); sisters, Steffie, Rose (Barry). Zig will also be missed by his extended family and friends. Dad was born on January 26, 1916 in Zhoda. Dad enlisted during the Second World War, after which Dad joined Canada Post, retiring in 1979 after 37 years. Dad took pleasure in the simple things life had to offer. He loved being surrounded by family, and puttering around his house and yard. Mom and Dad liked bowling and for a number of years played in Leagues. He loved to curl and later on enjoyed watching it on television. Dad was always up for a good game of cards, and especially crib with his daughter-in-law Susan, who he had a special place in his heart for. His grandchildren also meant so much to him. Dad was kind, good natured, unpretentious, humble and a good sport. We so love you and miss you so much. The family would like to thank Dr. Cavers and the staff at the Victoria Hospital for their care and comfort during his short stay. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca.
