EDWARD KELLY May 5, 1927 - February 28, 2005 During the evening of February 28, 2005, surrounded by his family and close friends, Edward Joseph Kelly bade us farewell. Eddie, a soul-mate and lifelong partner to Kate (Deidy); a proud and giving father to Denise and Eamonn and son-in-law Jim Lavoie; a cherished and greatly loved granddad to Kelsey, Jesse, Kaitlyn and Alyssa; also leaves behind many dear friends and coworkers. Eddie is also survived by sisters, May and Rachel of Carlow, Ireland; nephews, John, Tom, Michael and Martin and their families also of Carlow; and niece Katrina and her family of Boston, MA. Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Theresa; his brother Noel; as well as his niece Mary; and nephew Noel, also of Ireland. Eddie was born on May 5, 1927, in Stradbally, County Leix, Ireland. Eddie and Kate were married March 12, 1955, after his service with the British Royal Air Force. Together with their children, Eddie and Kate moved to Canada in 1964 making their home here in Winnipeg. Eddie had trained at British Matthews in England and, upon his arrival to Canada, started working at Dominion Bridge. He then went to CN - Transcona Shops where he worked as a boilermaker until his retirement after 20 years in 1992. Eddie enjoyed the outdoors, camping, kicking the ball around , cross-country skiing, running and training for the five marathons which he ran with his dear friend Bill, dancing with the love of his life, Deidy and swimming. As a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Eddie recently received his 25th anniversary pin. His favourite pastimes included attending numerous Bomber games, as a long-standing season ticket holder, reading, travelling, visiting with family and friends, listening to his Irish melodies, but most of all puttering around the house and especially in his garden. Granddad, your courage and strength inspired us. Your constant support and undying love will always be remembered. We will miss you. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at St. Bernadette's Parish, 820 Cottonwood Dr. Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Lawn Reception Centre.
