OLENA LUBINSKA ZIOMBRA It is with great sadness that we share with family, friends and the Ukrainian community, the passing of Olena Helena Lesia Lubinska Ziombra, on Sunday, February 27, 2005. She lived in Winnipeg for over 50 years and was active in the Ukrainian community. She was born March 29, 1930 in Tauriw, Ternopil District, Ukraine, surviving Russian and German occupation. After the war, she worked as an interpreter for UNRA in a refugee camp, and in 1948, immigrated to Canada with her mother and settled in Quebec. In 1949, she moved to Ontario and married Michael Ziombra, moving with him to Manitoba in 1952. Over the years, she worked as a hairdresser, cashier and salesperson and owned her own hair salon for several years. She enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church where she had been a member since 1954, and a highlight was singing before Pope John Paul II on his 1984 visit to Canada. She served as President of the League of Ukrainian Women in the 1960's and was an active member of the Ukrainian Senior Club Prosvita for many years. In addition, in 1994 she was honoured for 50 years of service to the Ukrainian Community of Canada by Bishop Myron Daciuk. Mrs. Ziombra was predeceased by her parents, Prokop Lubinski and Katherina Kowalewska and brother Volodymir Lubinski. She is survived by her two children, Roman George Ziombra and Irene Katherina Ziombra Driscoll. Prayers will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. (tonight) at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, March 4 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rev.
