Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARION EMILY GRIST (nee Crookshanks) passed away peacefully on March 3, 2005 at Grace General Hospital. Marion is survived by her two sons, Gord (Rhonda), Bob (Karen), and her husband Ed's son Al (Verna); as well as grandson Glen (great-grandsons, Blake and Lucas); granddaughter Michelle English (Jason) (great-grandchildren, Scott and Brooke); grandson Ryan; granddaughter Hilary; sisters, Irene Yule, Doris Croy and many family members in both Winnipeg, BC, Alberta and Ontario. Born on September 9, 1910 in Stonewall, MB, Marion attended Stonewall Collegiate, excelling as a student, graduating in 1927. After graduation, Marion worked for a period of time in Stonewall before entering Nurse's training at the former Winnipeg General Hospital where she graduated as an RN in 1934. She then worked as a nurse with the Mission in Central Winnipeg. Her stories revealed to her family the difficult situations and time of that period in the Dirty Thirties . In 1937, Marion married Ed Grist who, after 24 years of marriage, predeceased her in 1961. Marion than returned to her Nursing career, working at the Women's Pavilion from 1962 to 1969. After retirement, she continued to use her nursing skills as a volunteer at the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic from 1972 to 1989. Marion lived a very active life until her arthritis prevented physical activity. She was an active member and volunteer at Young United Church for many years, a life member of Young Church UCW, and the Council of Women as well as the Winnipeg General Hospital Alumnae Association. Her hobbies included sewing, needle-point, baking cookies for her grandchildren and knitting mitts and toques for her family and countless others. She enjoyed travelling and did so extensively from 1962 to 1990. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Sam and Emily Crookshanks; brother Bert Crookshanks of Stonewall; sister Claire Denovan of Winnipeg and Ed's daughter Elnora Bowering of BC. Many thanks to the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care and to all the staff on 3 North at Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, the Arthritis Society of Manitoba, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway - 783-7211
