Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE MARY ROSE GILES (nee TUCK) September 11, 1918 - February 24, 2005 On the first anniversary of her husband's passing, Myrt left us on Thursday, February 24, 2005, at the age of 86 years. Remaining to cherish her memory are her six children, Noreen Ayotte (John), Mavis Lowenberger, Jackie Farmer (Bob), Laurie Giles (Fran), Fred Giles (Sandy) and Rhonda Kibsey (Barry); 15 grandchildren, Michael (Tina), Monique (Bill), Amanda (Chris), Kristin (Graeme), Kevin, Patrick, Karen (Dave), Carly, Lanie, Warren, Tara, Kira, Brendan, Adrian and Alexandria; and six great-grandchildren, Holly, Blaire, Danielle, Adam, Zachary and Miles. Myrt is also survived by her devoted sister Mildred Yallits, aunt Dolly Gibb; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by her good friend, Bob Lowenberger. Myrt was predeceased by her husband Fred, of 62 years of marriage; her parents; brother William Oscar Tuck; and sister Beatrice Pollitt. On September 11, 1918, Myrt was born in Winnipeg, MB, to Chester and Nora Tuck. She grew up in St. Vital and spent her youth involved in activities surrounding the old Eclipse Social Club where she just loved to participate in amateur theatre productions and sporting events. Myrt was a very talented baseball player with the St. Vital Tigerettes, who went on to win a championship in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was very proud of the team's accomplishments. Myrt met her husband Fred at the Eclipse and together they raised their six children in the Glenwood area. She became very active in the community and was recognized by the Mayor of St. Vital for her outstanding volunteer work. Myrt was instrumental in organizing flea markets to raise funds for the first St. Vital Victorias Major Junior Hockey Team. She was also an accomplished salesperson - everyone knew the Avon (and later Fuller Brush) lady! She was honoured by Avon for being one of their top three sales people in the country. A unique individual, Myrt had the ability to find the lighter side of life in her bottomless tickle trunk of costumes. She became known as Mrs. Dressup, and friends and neighbours alike came from far and wide to see what she had in that trunk. Myrt was also known for her contagious laugh and never thought twice about visiting the sick or shut-ins wearing some outrageous outfit to lift their spirits. Her children, grandchildren and friends, delighted in dressing up just to hear Nanny Myrt laugh. Her other interests included playing Bingo at Glenwood Community Club, making crafts, knitting, and gardening. Myrt and Fred also spent many good times at the casinos in Reno and Winnipeg and enjoyed their cottage at Lundar Beach. A private family service for Myrt and Fred, followed by an open house, will take place at a later date. Our family would like to thank all the staff at the Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home for their dedication and care during the three years Mom resided there. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Myrt's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Mom and Nanny will be sadly missed.
