SIGRID A. ALLEN (nee WOLD) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend on February 28, 2005. Sigrid succumbed to a brief illness at the age of 85 and was surrounded by the love of her family. Sig leaves to cherish her memory, devoted son Les and daughter-in-law Sharon: four grandchildren, Kris Allen and Pam Allen; Marni Wachs (husband Larry and children, Lauren, Trey); Art Zuke (fiancee Darragh, and children, Ian, Matthew, Malina). Sig was affectionately named Grammy by her great-grandchildren. Sig is survived by her brother Norman Wold and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Leslie (Lel); daughter Valerie Zuke-Allen; sisters, Mildred Wilson and Christina Glanfield; brother Swan Wold; parents, Mildred and Swan Wold. Sig was born in Mulvihill, MB on July 23, 1919. At an early age the Wold family moved to the West Kildonan area of Winnipeg. She attended Victory School and met the love of her life Lel during her adolescence. Sig and Lel were married August 8, 1942 and were together for their 54th anniversary. During the Second World War, Mom and Dad were stationed in Neepawa and Gimli, finally settling and building their own home on McAdam Avenue, Winnipeg. Sig was employed at the T. Eaton Company before dedicating her life to motherhood and being a homemaker. She was an avid curler and was an active member of the Eaton's Ladies Curling Club, participating for many years on its executive. Her family was the light of her life, attending school functions, sports events, dance lessons, always cheering on her son Les and daughter Valerie. She celebrated with them as they moved on to higher education, careers and families. Her love and enthusiasm continued with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. A enjoyed the summers at the cottage at Sandy Hook. For over 70 years the Beach meant fond memories with family and friends, the Moonlight Special , playing cards and horseshoes, trips to Winnipeg Beach and Gimli for an ice cream cone, and of course never missing the Sandy Hook Picnic / Field Day. She enjoyed cheering the children as they ran and if someone tripped, we would hear her infamous Uff Da! She leaves with us many wonderful memories that we will always cherish. She was blessed with the ability to bridge the generation gap with understanding, compassion and humour. She held dear to her heart the importance of family values and the family unit which is her special legacy to us. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace. Cremation and a family interment have occurred at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in Sig's honour may be made to a charity your choice. A HEART OF GOLD A heart of gold stopped beating, working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Leaves and flowers may wither, the golden sun may set, But the hearts that loved you dearly are the ones that won't forget. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
