Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET ELIZABETH SPROULE MCKINNON (nee ROBINSON) November 15, 1925 - March 3, 2005 Margaret was born in Winnipeg, the daughter of Thomas C. Robinson and Sara Sproule. She attended Laura Secord School for grades 1 to 9, then Gordon Bell High School. She continued her education at United College, graduating with her BA in 1946. She obtained her BSW at the University of Manitoba in 1947 and joined her daughter at university in 1970 to obtain her MSW. During her university days she was a member of Alpha Delta Phi sorority. Marg was a social worker with the Children's Aid Society of Winnipeg from 1947 to 1951. In 1948 she married Donald Taylor McKinnon and they had three children. In 1961 Margaret resumed her career and was employed as a school social worker in the St. James Assiniboia Schools until her retirement in 1984. Margaret was the type of person who always put the needs and wishes of others before her own. She was very supportive of her family - they always came first to her. When there were questions or difficulties in life, her children and later her grandchildren knew that she was the person who would listen to them and guide their decisions. Marg always appreciated a good laugh. Her sense of humor and lively wit endured to the end and she loved to gently tease those around her. Margaret is survived by her daughter Catherine, son-in-law Lorne Colpitts; son Gordon, daughter-in-law Lori Spivak; son Bruce and daughter-in-law Janina. She is survived by her seven beloved grandchildren, Bradley Colpitts, Pamela Colpitts, Sarah McKinnon, Andrew McKinnon, Daniel McKinnon, Geoffrey McKinnon and Jennifer McKinnon. Margaret is also survived by her sister Irene K. Finn (formerly Booth); sister-in-law Patricia Johnson (formerly Robinson) and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, by a sister Olive Robinson and by a brother Thomas Coulter Robinson. Marg was an active member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg for over 40 years, and was a member of the committee that selected the site for the new church on Wellington Crescent. Marg was also an active member and past president of the Soroptimist Club of Winnipeg as well as a member of the University Women's Club of Winnipeg. Marg lived on Douglas Park Road in St. James for nearly 60 years and had many friends there. Marg loved to play bridge and spend time with her many friends. She took great pleasure in her summers over the past 30 years at the cottage at Betula Lake. She enjoyed entertaining friends who came to visit. There were the nightly card games, the blueberry sorties, walking in the park and dining on wonderful fresh Betula walleye. The family is grateful for the support of Marg's many friends who made regular visits to see her over the past few years. The family wishes to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their compassion and loving care of Margaret for the past two and a half years. We particularly thank Joyce Gordon with whom Margaret developed a special bond. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent on Thursday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so wish a donation may be made in Margaret's memory to the Endowment Fund of the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 603 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg, R3M 0A7. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
