DAVID LANDY With courage and dignity David Landy passed away March 5, 2005 just shy of his 84th birthday. Born in Winnipeg, David grew up in London, England. A veteran of the Second World War, David returned to Winnipeg to marry and raise his family. David was predeceased by his parents Louis and Bella (nee Lazareck) and his father-in-law Joseph Freiden. Remaining to fondly cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 56 years Edith Landy (nee Freiden) and his five children and their families: Laurie Landy and Nora Spinks, Adam Spinks and Alicia Landy; Barbara and Paul Livingston, Alex and Caitlin, Saralyn Mehta; Bob and Rhonda Landy, Ethan and Lily; Mark Landy and Jennifer Logie, Joshua Landy and David Logie; Martin Landy and Lindsay Dann as well as his extended family and many dear friends. For more than 60 years David has been a generous and valued volunteer in his North End community. David helped establish the Luxton and St. Johns Community Centres. He participated on the Board of Directors as an active member of the North Centennial Seniors Association. Along side his many friends at the Club David cherished the time he spent at the many special events, trips Grandma and Grandpa volunteer program and a variety of daily activities at the North End Seniors Association. Every summer for more than 30 years David devoted his time to capturing the spirit of the Winnipeg Folk Festival in his acclaimed photographs. His photographs were published in the annual programs, posters and Folk Festival Book: The Stories of the Winnipeg Folk Festival written by Steve Johnson and Sheldon Oberman. David had a distinguished career as the official photographer for the Province of Manitoba. He will be remembered for his extensive body of work including images of Manitoba, its natural beauty, citizens, architecture, government and business leaders distinguished heads of state, and culture and the arts. One of the gifts he leaves his children and grandchildren is his love of the arts especially music and the ballet. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and Dr. Finlayson of the 5th floor Cardiac ward at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their dedication care and concern for David and his family. Services will be held Etz Chayim Synagogue at 123 Matheson Ave. Monday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m.
