J. BOYD CLARKE Boyd was born in Brandon, MB on January 25, 1925, the third child and only son of J.W. and Julia (Costely) Clarke. He died peacefully on March 6, 2005 at St. Joseph's Health Care Centre in Guelph, ON. His early years were spent in rural Manitoba towns including Miniota, Shoal Lake and Killarney. Boyd graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1945. At the time, he was the youngest to graduate from that faculty and received the highest marks in his class. He enjoyed a stimulating and satisfying business career. His first position was Rural Electrification Engineer with the Manitoba Power Commission. He joined Federal Wire and Cable Company of Guelph, ON in 1948, where he rose to the position of General Sales Manager for Canada. In 1964, with his appointment to General Manager of Continental European Operations for H.K. Porter Company of Pittsburgh, Boyd moved with his family to Paris where he had responsibility for several heavy equipment manufacturing operations throughout Europe. On his return to Canada, Boyd joined Canadian Corporate Management Company Ltd. of Toronto and the following year was appointed President of Canadian Motorola Electronics, a division of that company. In 1969, he returned to Canadian Corporate Management as Vice President and was elected to the Board of Directors, where he had corporate responsibilities for several operating subsidiaries and participated in the overall planning and acquisition activities of the company. In 1986, Canadian Corporate Management was acquired by Federal Industries Ltd. and the following year Boyd was appointed Chief Executive Officer of it's Industrial Group, comprised of ten companies. He held this position until his retirement. An avid golfer, Boyd was a member of York Downs Golf and Country Club where he served on various committees and as President in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marion (Anderson) and his daughter Nancy of Guelph, his son Murray and daughter-in-law Emily of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen Smith of Winnipeg and Peggy (Jack) Stewart of Qualicum Beach, BC. Rested at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel , 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph, Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for John will take place in the chapel on Friday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
