LESIA KAPTY (STEBNICKI) On Sunday, March 6, 2005, Lesia Kapty passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Lesia was born on May 29, 1933 in Winnipeg. She grew up in Norwood and attended King George V School and Norwood Collegiate. She continued to further her education at secretarial school. After graduation, she worked for the former Indian Affairs Department for several years before becoming secretary at Hastings School where she worked until her retirement in 1992. Lesia was predeceased by her father Joseph, her in-laws John and Josephine Kapty as well as Chocha and Vuycho Lopuszanski. Lesia will be sadly missed by her beloved husband Vlad ( My Dear ), her only daughter Darusia and husband John Kozelko and her loving grandchildren, Alexandra ( Poolie ), Nicolas ( Kola ) and Timon. She also leaves to mourn her passing her mother Olga Hlynsky (Very Rev. M. Hlynsky), sister Luba (John), brother Bohdan (Marlene), Baba Hania, brother-in-law Russell (Judy), nieces and nephews Patricia, Laurence, Larissa, Tara, Sophie, Teddy, Michael, Uliana, and their families, her svaty Sam and Mary Kozelko, her Koshetz Choir family and her many friends. Lesia was a very special woman. She was a great Baba who nurtured and spoiled her grandchildren while instilling in them a love and appreciation of family, culture and community. Along with Dido Vlodzo she was an avid supporter of all their activities and was very proud of all their accomplishments. Her support and unconditional love will guide them all of their lives. She was generous, giving her time and energy to causes she found very dear. She was proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She was an original member of the O. Koshetz Choir and was so looking forward to celebrating the choir's upcoming 60th anniversary. She knew how influential music is and she was passionate about her Thursday night choir practices and all of the Koshetz Choir performances. In addition, she and Vlad always supported and hosted visiting performers and artists from Ukraine many of whom became their close friends. As a young person she was a member of the Ukrainian National Youth Federation (M.U.N.O.) and attended their summer courses. This led her to join the Ukrainian Women's Organization branch of the Ukrainian National Federation (St. Boniface Branch) where she remained an active member until her passing. The preservation of her cultural heritage was paramount to Lesia. She and Vlad were generous supporters of Oseredok, Orlan Ukrainian Folk Ensemble and many cultural activities in the community at large. Lesia and Vlad loved to travel and they visited Ukraine on many occasions beginning in 1965, at a time when it was frowned upon. She supported her family here and abroad and was her nephew Laurence's greatest cheerleader in supporting his pursuit of a career in music. Family get togethers, especially traditional ones were important to her and it was her wish to have them continue. She loved life - she sang to life, and our home was always filled with the love and laughter of family and friends. She was a gracious hostess who worried about everyone and everything. Lesia wanted people to know that she cared. We will miss her deeply, but we accept God's will and thank Him that He freed her from her pain and suffering. She had a rich and full life and we know that she will continue to watch over us. To our many friends and family, your constant support has meant so much. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Taras Babick for his care and compassion as both our family physician and long-time friend. We greatly appreciate all that you did for Lesia. Mom had many special care givers who gave us the gift of time. Thanks go to Dr. P. Harris, Concordia Oncology Department staff and volunteers, Concordia Emergency Department and staff of the N1 Ward. Prayers will be sung on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral located at 1175 Main St. The Rev. A. Harkavyi will officiate assisted by the Very Rev. Michael Skrumeda. The funeral service will also be held at the Cathedral at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 11 followed by a private family burial. Pallbearers will be Laurence Ewashko, Teddy Kapty, Roman Kozelko, Paul Klymkiw, Brad Richliwski, and Leonard Andrusiak. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oseredok Foundation, Concordia Oncology or a charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT! Korban Funeral Chapel 956-2193
