Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFRED SCHROEDER Following a brief illness, our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather peacefully left us to live with God in Heaven on Sunday, March 6, 2005. Alfred was born in Berlin, Germany on August 25, 1925, as the only child of Augusta and Willi Schroeder. In 1952 Alfred immigrated to Canada and in 1953 began work at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, where he met his future wife, Irmgard Unger. They were married one year later and were blessed with four daughters, Dorothee, Monica, Margaret and Linda; and three sons-in-law, Paul Reimer, Harry Krahn and Al Joba. Besides his wife and children, Alfred will be sadly missed by nine grandchildren, Melanie (Ken), Carolyn (Matt), Erin, Dustin (Karen), Amber, Riana (Mike), Corey, Carmen and Karl (Patty); and one great-grandchild Tasha. His death will also be mourned by two brothers-in-law, Edward (Elfie) and Helmut (Amy) Unger as well as many relatives and friends here and in Germany. Alfred was an active member of First Mennonite Church and served as lay minister from 1961 until 1999. He was employed as a draughtsman by the Manitoba Government since 1955, retiring in 1990, but still remaining in contact with former coworkers. Until very recently he was still able to go swimming at the Boni Vital Pool every morning, where he enjoyed the socializing as well as the swimming. Alfred was a dedicated family man and enjoyed going camping, on picnics, etc. He also enjoyed travelling, especially to his beloved home city, Berlin. Special thanks to Dr. E. Doermer, the staff at Concordia Hospital and Riverview Health Centre 3E, for their devoted care and kindness to Alfred and our family during these difficult weeks. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 10:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, Notre Dame and Alverstone, with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Viewing will also be held on Wednesday, March 9 at Bethania Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave. (North parking lot off Kimberly Avenue) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:00 p.m. For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations to MCC would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements by Friends of the Family at 222-8080.
