DENNIS EARL PENNER Peacefully, with loving family at his side, Dennis passed away on March 5, 2005 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home. Dennis will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Janette Penner and Mike Young of Portage la Prairie, Rachelle Penner of Winnipeg and their mother Laura Penner (nee Marion). He is also survived by his mother Anna Penner; sisters, Irene and Frank Barkman, Dorothy Jones, Caroll and Erwin Kroeker; and brother Eric Penner and Bev Funk. He was predeceased by his brother Wesley in 1965 and his father Ben D. Penner in 1991. Dennis was born on February 20, 1936 in Steinbach where he received his high school education. Later he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba. Dennis was employed for 29 years as an advertising manager with Princess Auto, Winnipeg. His creative talent was displayed in his enjoyment of art. This included sketches, painting on various media, including acrylic on canvass, acrylic on wood, metal on wood, and throughout his advertising career. After his retirement he re-energized his artistic career. He created many more works of art using his distinct style. There were showings of his work in several Winnipeg galleries, with local television coverage and at the Winnipeg Concert Hall for several weeks. Other showings were held as far away as Calgary, Florida and Mexico. He enjoyed travelling, worldwide, especially to Mexico, fishing in Northern Manitoba and vacations with his family. Some of his other interests included, playing cards, chess and a variety of sports, all of which he played, including baseball, football and curling. Special thanks to all who provided care at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
