MARIE KATHLEEN GROUETTE (nee FUCHS) 1928 - 2005 Marie passed away peacefully at Concordia Place Personal Care Home in the early hours of March 7, 2005, at the age of 77. She is survived by her husband Joseph of 56 years; her daughter Vivian (Martin) Jandavs; and grandchildren, Jon, Kristina and Stephanie. Mom was predeceased by her mother Kathleen; her father Henry Sr.; brothers, Johnny, Henry; her sister Molly; and son Paul. Mom was born on June 1, 1928 in Cartwright, MB. She left Cartwright to work in Domain, MB, where she met Dad. They were married on January 3, 1949, later moving to Winnipeg to start a family. Mom loved to do crafts, embroider, sew, knit, bake and was very fond of horses. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and attended the Church of Christ on Sundays. Five years ago Mom developed Alzheimer's Disease and moved to Concordia Place to spend her remaining years. Our family would like to thank all the staff of the 1st and 2nd floor. You truly are angels. Thank you for your compassion and kind words. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels on March 11 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, or a charity of one's choice. Mom, Granny, you are free like a bird, safely in the arms of God. We will always love you. Rest in peace. JOSEPH RENE GROUETTE 1923 - 2005 Joseph passed away on March 7, 2005, at the age of 81 at the Concordia Hospital, only hours after his wife Marie predeceased him. He is survived by his daughter Vivian (Martin) Jandavs; grandchildren, Jon, Kristina and Stephanie. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Marie, and their son Paul. Joseph was born on November 9, 1923 in Winnipeg. Dad was a war veteran and joined the army in July 1943. He went overseas in 1944, was stationed at Middleton St. George 419 Bomber Squad. He went to Europe in 1945 and was discharged in 1946 by the VAL Pacific, Greenwood Nova Scotia. Dad attended the University of Manitoba and took Agriculture. This allowed him to work at Anseeuw Farms in the Oak Bluff area, and later in Domain where he met his wife. They were married on January 3, 1949 and lived in the Elmwood area of Winnipeg. There they completed their family with the birth of their daughter Vivian and son Paul. Dad worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway for 36 years before retiring in April of 1984. He was secretary and treasurer of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way, a church elder and also taught Sunday School at Grey Street United Church, as well as being a baseball coach. Dad loved camping and bowling, and attended the Church of Christ. He was especially proud when his daughter graduated from nursing school and when his grandchildren were born. Dad liked visiting his wife at Concordia Place Personal Care Home especially on Mondays to play bingo and Fridays for parties. Until recently Dad lived at home with his dog Pugsly, who was his life, but was in and out of the hospital many times. Since January 11, 2005, he had resided on the third floor of Concordia Place. Dad, Grandpa, we all love you and you will be in our hearts forever. You can watch us from above. You too are also now safe in the arms of God. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and reception to follow will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels, March 11 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association or a charity of one's choice. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Vivian: I am so sorry to hear of your parent's demise. In 1988 our parents died a week to the minute apart, certainly devastating, and not unlike what you are going through now. The Ross girls are scattered far and wide, I now live in Calgary, but do read the Free Press. Please accept my deepest sympathies.
