Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH IWASZKIW Change in time of services Suddenly, but peacefully Joseph Iwaszkiw devoted husband, father and grandfather ( Gido ) was called to eternal rest on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Joseph was born in Tornopol, Chorkiv, Ukraine on September 30, 1925. At a very young age he left his home during the war, travelled through Europe experiencing the ravages of the Second World War. He married Anna Dorenko in Belgium in 1950. Seeking a better life, they, along with their daughter Mary moved to Canada in 1951. Joseph was a truly honest and hard working man. He worked in the coal mines in Belgium followed by many years in construction and most recently at the U of M just before he retired. He took great pride in his work and was proud of his achievements. He was a man of many stories about his life and travels attracting many audiences young and old. He spoke many languages well. He loved to work around the house, especially caring for his garden and cooking for family gatherings. Joseph is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of almost 55 years Anna; daughters, Mary (Jim), Alice (Kelvin), Linda (Walter) and son Michael Sherry and his two grandchildren, James and Darryll whom he was so proud of. He was predeceased by his father, mother and sister Karolina and leaves behind many relatives in Ukraine. He was a proud member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral for over 50 years. Prayers will be sung 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 11 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 12 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. Special thank you to Dr. B. Gorski and the nursing staff especially Roger and Sikhu on the 5th floor - U6 at Seven Oaks Hospital.
