ELIZABETH (BETTY) T. CONN Betty passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening March 8, 2005, after struggling for many years with a serious heart and lung condition. She will be deeply missed by husband Ian; daughter Linda (Peter); grandson Alan; brother Syd (Rosalie); nephew Ian and niece Sharon (Marteen, Alex) and by many relatives and friends in Scotland. Betty was born May 15, 1933 in Galashiels, Scotland. There, she began her career as an executive secretary, met and married Ian, then moved to Edinburgh where Linda was born. The family moved to Canada in 1958, settling in Fort Garry in 1966, after a sojourn back to Scotland. Over the years, Betty worked at the University of Manitoba, Microbiology and for the D.A.S.C.H. organization. Betty was an avid sportswoman winning many trophies and prizes. In her youth she was a swimmer and competed for East Scotland. Badminton, bowling, bridge and golfing became part of her Canadian lifestyle. She was an active member of Southwood Golf and Country Club for 30 years. Duplicate bridge was also her passion for many years. It was hard for Betty to give up her active lifestyle as her illness progressed. Over the years, Betty loved to travel, often with friends, enjoying vacations all over North America, Caribbean, Bahamas, Hawaii, and Scotland. Many joyous birthdays and Christmas Holidays were celebrated in Colorado while visiting with Linda, her family and their friends. Throughout her life Betty made many friends, had a rewarding career, enjoyed great vacations, and loved and nurtured her family. To her, family was the most important of all and she was always there for us. She and Ian enjoyed 52 wonderful years of marriage. Her daughter Linda was her best friend and companion. Her grandson Alan was the apple of her eye. She adored her boy and the feeling was mutual. She will be sorely missed by all of us who loved her dearly. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service has been held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 2E8.
