EDITH DAVIS Peacefully on March 2, 2005, Edith passed away at Grace General Hospital, at the age of 97, with her family at her side. Edith was born November 7, 1907 in Calgary, Alberta to John and Helen Jenkinson. Edith was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 1969; sister Violet, brothers Bill, Jim, John and son-in-law Jerry Best. She will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Marilyn Best, Valerie Grenier, Bonnie Lynne (Ted) Irvine. She was a loving nana to Michael (Shelley), Guy (Jennie), Glenn (Cathy), Vanessa (Les) and Valerie (Dean) and a wonderful great nana to Rebecca and Allison (Kamloops B.C.), Mitch and Kenny (London, Ontario), Adam and Brady (Burlington, Ontario), Halle (Killarney, Manitoba). Mom devoted her life to raising her family and was proud of their accomplishments. In her younger days she enjoyed hiking, speed skating, curling, lawn bowling and golfing. As a young girl growing up in Calgary she received awards for her paintings and after her family were grown she resumed her artwork and we all cherish her paintings in our homes. Her famous Snow People which she designed in the 1970's have found homes in Canada, U.S.A., New Zealand, Germany and Scotland. Mom crocheted precious heirloom afghans for each daughter, grandchild and great grandchild. Edie enjoyed her bridge games with her many friends in the Courts of St. James where she resided for 15 years. Her friends tell us she was famous for her No Trump bids. Mom satisfied her desire to travel by journeying coast to coast in Canada and the States. She enjoyed her trips to Mexico, Hawaii and the Panama Canal Cruise. Touring Europe and British Isles with her sister Violet was highlighted in London by attending the Queens garden Party at Buckingham Palace. Our mom was proud of her Scottish heritage. Another visit in 1991 to Scotland to visit relatives and her mothers homestead, with her three daughters was especially meaningful to her. Her long life took her thru two World Wars and the Depression. Our home in Prince Rupert, B.C. during the second World War was always open to the Navy and Merchant Marines where mom and dad welcomed the servicemen with music and hospitality. Our family deeply thanks the wonderful home care workers and staff at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts for their exceptional care and compassion extended to Edith. Special thanks to Dr. Ian Martin, nurses and staff at 3N Grace Hospital for their care of Edith and compassion to her family. Thanks to mom's personal physician, Dr. W. Van Horne for 27 years of wonderful care. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Mom would be happy to know of her family travelling long distances to be together to celebrate her life. Edie was a creator of happy memories for family and friends for 97 years. If friends so desire donations in Edith's memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St. Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0K6, or to a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
