Jean leaves to cherish her memory one son Philip Arscott of Redcliff; one sister Helen (John) Buchholz of Redcliff; three cousins, Pat Herrmann and Barbara (Alf) King, both of Medicine Hat, AB and Jack (Shirley) Thacker of Calgary, AB; nephews and nieces, Ross (Madeline) Buchholz and their children, Vienna and Miranda of Medicine Hat, Garth (Fiona) Buchholz and their children, Connor and Braden of Calgary, Craig Buchholz of Edmonton, AB and Karen (Dave) Krause and their children, Keaton and Jayda of Redcliff; special friends, Marg McCulley of Medicine Hat and Jick Cormack of Winnipeg. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Helen Nellie Thacker; and one brother William Bill Thacker. Jean was born on June 14, 1937 in Medicine Hat and was raised in Redcliff. She attended school in both Redcliff and Medicine Hat. Jean was employed at CIBC in Redcliff and Calgary, the City of Medicine Hat as secretary to Harry Veiner, and Chateau Lake Louise. Over the years Jean resided in Calgary, England and in Winnipeg where she spent some more time with CIBC and later was the secretary at All Saints' Anglican Church for many years. In the summer of 2000 she settled back to her home town of Redcliff to be closer to family and old friends. Jean had a love of animals especially her dog and two cats. She had a love of the outdoors and nature, enjoying gardening, star gazing and especially watching prairie thunderstorms, sun rises, and sun sets. She was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time with the children of her family and took joy in finding or making them that 'special' gift. She had a natural curiosity about innumerable subjects and was always an interesting conservationist with 'something on the go'. Jean was a member of the Redcliff Museum Society and the Order of Eastern Star. She loved to travel and her many trips took her to Expo '67 in Montreal, as well as trips overseas to Scotland, France and Greece. Another of her passions was attending Canadian and World figure skating championships. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as an optimist who saw the good and positive side of each person and in turn the challenges of life. Her strength of character, courage and sense of humour will be sadly missed. A private family interment will take place in the family plot at Redcliff Cemetery. A celebration of Jean's life will be held in Gordon Memorial United Church, 401 - 2nd Street SE, Redcliff on Monday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Blaine Schaufele officiating. A service will also be held at All Saints' Anglican Church in Winnipeg at a later date.
