CYRIL (CY) TIMOTHY COUGHLIN January 1, 1916 - March 11, 2005 Peacefully, with his family at his side, on Friday, March 11, 2005, Cy left this earth to be reunited with God and his loved ones that went before him. Dad was born in Winnipeg on January 1, 1916 to Daniel and Marjorie. He was predeceased by Lois, the light of his life and his loving wife of 60 years, in 2003; his parents, brothers, Turn, Austin, Johnny, sister Mary, and son-in-law Wilson. He is survived by daughters, Lee Downey (Dale), Carol Bordass, and Joan Lytwyn (Steve); grandchildren, Tim Downey (Angelle), Chris Downey (Melanie), Janelle Bordass, Amber Bordass, Shawn Lytwyn, great-grandchild Mia, plus cousins, nieces and nephews. Dad received his education at St. Mary's School and St. Paul's College. He entered the Air Force in 1942 as a pilot and flight instructor. Upon the end of the Second World War, Dad and Mom returned to Winnipeg where Dad joined the family business, D. Coughlin and Sons at the Union Stock Yards. He and his brothers later expanded the business to include trucking and formed Great West Transport Ltd., which was his professional life until his retirement. As Dad always said, It's not work if you love what you're doing. , and he loved making the family business a huge part of his life. Dad was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #5808 for many years, and both he and Mom were active members of St. John Brebeuf Parish from its inception in 1955. Dad was an avid golfer, and he and Mom enjoyed many summers at Southwood Golf and Country Club, many winters down south with friends and family. He also loved to play bridge, which became the focus of many social events right to last weeks of his life. He lived a very full life, doing everything to the very best of his ability. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place. Very special thanks to the Palliative Care Staff at St. Boniface General Hospital for the exceptional care and support they provided to Dad and the whole family in the last two weeks of his life. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favourite charity would be appreciated.
