DAVID GOLDBERG passed away peacefully on February 20, 2005 in his favourite chair. He is survived by Evelyn, his loving wife of 59 years; his children, Norman (Marilyn), Harvey (Ruth) and Penny Sue; his grandchildren, Aviva (Greg), Ari, Amy, Daniel, Hava, Alon and Eitan; and his last surviving sibling Mel Goldenberg. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Laura Richman, Rosalie Richman, Sadie Goldenberg and many nieces and nephews. Born June 1, 1916 in Winnipeg to Moshe Goldenberg and Sarah Melamed, Dave was the second youngest of six children and the first Canadian-born. The first language he spoke was Yiddish. He grew up in the heart of the North End attending David Livingstone, Aberdeen and St. John's Tech schools. He was employed in the garment and glove industries and as a restaurant owner. His experiences growing up in the North End shaped much of his life. He learned to be a proud Jew and a caring member of his family and community. He made lifelong friendships. David canvassed for the United Jewish Appeal for over 40 years and was a lifelong member of the YMHA, starting with the Young Men's Club. Many people were the recipients of his quiet acts of friendship. If so desired, donations may be made to the David and Evelyn Goldberg Fund of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba (477-7525). Thanks you to the staff of the Portsmouth Retirement Residence for all their care and consideration. Funeral was held at Congregation Shaarey Zedek on February 23. Pallbearers were his seven grandchildren. Interment was at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park.
