Date of Passing: Mar 11, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLEMENTINE JOSEPHINA (TINY) VERNAUS Suddenly on Friday, March 11, 2005, at home, Clementine passed away at the age of 73. She is lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed by her husband of 51 years, Peter; her children, Yvonne (Garry), Humphrey (Pam) and James (Nicole); her grandchildren, Halie, Cassandra and Katelyn and her stepgrandson Allan. She also leaves to mourn her loss many relatives and friends in The Netherlands, Germany, Australia and Canada. Clementine Klarwassar was born in The Netherlands May 6, 1931, where she met and married Peter Vernaus in 1953. That same year they immigrated to Canada, arriving in Winnipeg where they succeeded in building a life together. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Tiny volunteered as a Brownie leader and at the Victoria Hospital. In 1972 they built Winnipeg Speedway, and Tiny was a fixture behind the concession stands until the racetrack was sold in 1994. Family was everything to Tiny. Her children were her life, she was devoted to supporting everything they did and took great pride in their many accomplishments. Becoming an Oma meant the world to her, and she spent many hours enjoying the company of her grandchildren. She traveled extensively with her family, visiting friends and relatives in Europe and vacationing and attending car races in the United States. Summers were spent at the family cottage at Wendigo, where one of her favourite activities was sitting around the campfire, surrounded by friends and neighbours, talking or playing cards until the wee hours of the morning. She was a very creative person and spent many hours gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting and other crafts. Her home was her sanctuary, and she spent many hours decorating it with memories of her life in Europe and Canada. Pallbearers will be Robert Comeault, George Frame, Rudy Klassen, Pat Mooney, Harry Pellaers and Peter Vernaus. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., with Rev. Patrick A. Morand presiding. Interment to follow at the Fort Garry Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Southwood Supper Club, 1855 Pembina Hwy., following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clementine's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
