FRANKLIN INGO DALMAN March 12, 1924 - March 13, 2005 In the early hours of Sunday, March 13, 2005, Franklin passed away with his family by his side at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, MB. Frank leaves to mourn his wife of 60 years, Margaret; his son Jack (Brenda) and their children, Kim (Roy) DuQuette and Shelley (Don) Betts of Winnipeg; daughter Lynne and her children, Brad Bjarnason of Calgary and Jessica Bjarnason of Winnipeg; daughter Janice (Chris) Rarick and Janice's children, Marcy (Mike) Pinherio of Minaki, ON and Sean (Katherine) McNally of Winnipeg; son Larry (Bonnie) and their children, Kylen (Samantha) and Craig Kaminski of Calgary, and Brett and Mallory Dalman of Winnipeg and Stonewall respectively. He was predeceased by his son Franklin Jr. in 1988 and his son David in 1996. He is also survived by Franklin Jr.'s children, Darcy (Sue) Dalman of Winnipeg, and Mariedke Dalman of Calgary, and David's children, Erik (Judy), and Franklin of Winnipeg. Frank is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Norman (Bette) of Netley, MB and Gordon of Winnipeg; and his sisters, Corinne Copping of Gladstone, MB, and Victoria (Les) Clark of Bakersfield, CA. Frank was predeceased by his brother Arnold in 1981; sister Evelyn Copping in 1984 and brother Harold in 2004. Frank was born and raised in Selkirk, MB. where his family ran a dairy. The family moved to Netley, MB in 1940, where he met and married Margaret McCullough in 1944. He and Margaret farmed in Netley until they moved to Winnipeg in 1953. Frank joined Winnipeg Transit that year and drove a bus until his retirement in 1985. They always returned to Netley during the summer and eventually built a home and moved there permanently, spending their winters in Weslaco, Texas. Frank endured many health problems during his lifetime, from his first bout of cancer in his thirties, to the loss of a limb due to an automobile accident in 2000. However, nothing could disuade him from maintaining his extensive garden and yard in Netley. The summer after losing his leg, and prior to being fitted with a prosthesis, he worked out a way to mow the grass by pushing the lawnmower ahead of his wheelchair. He was the star patient in the Winnipeg Rehab Centre, encouraging men half his age to learn to live with their disabilities. Frank was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, expecting nothing in return. In fact he was insulted if anyone thought he needed help, which led to a few battles with the nurses this year. A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St. in Selkirk, MB (viewing at 1:30 p.m.). Interment to follow at Wakefield Cemetery. The family would like to thank the caring staff of the Riverview Health Centre, especially Linda, for their excellent care of our husband, father, and grandfather. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's memory to Cancer Care Manitoba or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
