JANET SHORTER September 2, 1908 - March 14, 2005 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our aunt, Janet Cairns Shorter, at the grand age of 96. Janet was born in Camelon, Falkirk, Scotland, the daughter of Andrew Dick and Grace Currie Dick. She immigrated to Canada at a young age and became a Canadian Citizen on September 14, 1971. On January 18, 1930 she married Leslie Shorter, in Winnipeg, who predeceased her in 1969. She had been a life long Winnipeg Resident except for a short period in Edmonton. She returned to her home in Winnipeg after her husbands death in 1969. Aunty was always there, being an integral part of our lives. She was extremely generous with her time and gifts. She always had a positive attitude to life and became an inspiration to all who knew her for her unselfish deeds. In addition to her parents, siblings and husband, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lil and Clarence (Bud) Messett. She is survived by her niece, Noreen Armstrong, (Denny) and her grand nephew Leslie Armstrong, who was named for her late husband. She was an active member of Norwood Rebekah Lodge No. 42, and was very proud of her membership there. Although she was almost 97 she never lost her facilities and sense of humour, reading, doing crossword puzzles and being an avid conversationalist till the day she died. We wish to acknowledge the exemplary care our aunt received at Golden Door Geriatric Center. The care and compassion received there exceeded all of our expectations and made her entire stay there a most pleasant experience. A private memorial service is being held. Donations in her memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or Rebekah Lodge No. 42, E Mail - Noreen Armstong - nada6400@aol.com Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
