JOHN MICHAEL GERARD DOWNS It is with heavy hearts that we announce the accidental death of our beloved son, brother, grandson and nephew, John Michael Gerard Downs on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the young age of 17 years. Left to mourn his passing are his parents Michael and Jacquie; his sister Kassandra and his brother Craig; his grandparents Pierce and Mary Hickey (Terrenceville, NL), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his grandparents Mike and Nellie Downs and his Uncle Gerard Hickey. John was born in Carman on November 10, 1987. He was raised on the family farm near Homewood, MB. He attended Midland Nursery School, Carman Elementary School and Carman Collegiate where he would have graduated in June 2005. John was a very hard worker, always striving to reach his highest at whatever he chose to do. Starting at the age of 12 he would bike four miles to pick strawberries at Labelle's. This past summer he enjoyed working at Homewood Aerial Spray, and then at Fas Gas where he was presently employed. While growing up on the farm John enjoyed the outdoors, hockey, golf, baseball, curling, camping, swimming at the Dike, and many nights at the Sperling Rink playing hockey and broomball. John's friends were most important to him. His greatest pastime was spending time with them. His charm and quick wit made a lasting impression. John's plans upon graduation were to attend the U. of M. pursuing a degree in Agriculture. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Downs Memorial Scholarship, in care of the Royal Bank, P.O. Box 1020, Carman, MB R0G 0J0. Funeral mass for John will be held from the Friends Community Church in Carman on Friday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Edward Kosa officiating. Doyle's Funeral Chapel of Carman in care of arrangements. www.doyleschapels.com
