GORDON GIBSON Peacefully, surrounded by family, Gordon Gibson, aged 68 years, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2005 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB. He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 41 years, Esther; one son Kevin (Reagan) and their children, Spencer and Alexandra of Winnipeg and one daughter Tannis (Corey) Nichol and their children, Matthew and Emma of Saskatoon, SK. He is also survived by one sister, Geraldine (Jim) Sigvaldason of Dauphin, MB; sisters-in-law, Marti (Rufus) Derksen, Erna (Curly) Martens, Sandi (Norm) Senkiw all of Steinbach and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and also his mother and father-in-law. Gordon was born May 9, 1936 in Inglis, MB. He started off a career with the Royal Bank of Canada and later moved on with the Great West Life Insurance Company, Royal Canadian Mint and then ventured into the auto industry as a business manager and sales rep. In 1964 he married his true love Esther Funk. They had two children who were the pride and joy of his life. He was also grateful to have enjoyed his four grandchildren. Gordon loved sports and excelled in hockey as a defenseman, fastball as a pitcher and curling as a skip. Gordon was a member of the United Church of Canada and served in various areas of the church and had a strong faith in God. Gordon ventured on a long, courageous journey with Alzheimer's. He was always so open about his struggles and hardships and was given so much support from those who knew him. Gordon was blessed to be able to live at home and received the ultimate in care, love, respect and understanding from Esther throughout his journey. He fought a good fight He finished the race. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. Duerksen, Dr. Zacharias and Marlee, the nurses at Bethesda Hospital and to all the family and friends for their care and support. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach. Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. with a brief devotional at 7:30 p.m. Interment at Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
