WINONA GRACE HOCKLEY 1908 - 2005 Winona G. Hockley of Calgary passed away on Friday, March 11, 2005 just a few weeks before her 97th birthday. Winona was born in Winnipeg, MB on March 28, 1908. She was a teacher in Winnipeg schools for over 40 years. She was a member of Westminster Church since 1934 and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club for almost 50 years. Winona was in England for a year at the start of the Second World War on a teacher exchange program. Because of the danger in London during the war, she was evacuated with a group of her young students to a small town outside of London for the school year. During the war, she earned a medal from St. John's Ambulance for First Aid and Home Nursing. After retiring from teaching, Winona did volunteer work for the Grace General Hospital and was a Life Member of that organization. Winona leaves to mourn a number of friends in Winnipeg and Calgary, and her extended family in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw and Indian Head, SK, Calgary, AB, Vancouver, BC, and South Pasadena, CA. Winona was predeceased by all of her immediate family and most recently by her beloved cousins, Harold Benson of Calgary and Douglas Benson of Vancouver, BC.
