VERONICA FREDERICK God saw that she was tired, so he wrapped his arms around her and took her home. It is with deep sorrow that her family announces the passing of Veronica Frederick on Wednesday, March 16, 2005. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ken, Harry (Bonnie), Stacey (Wolf) and Helen (Guy). Baba loved her grandchildren, Cheryl (Trevor), Jim (Lisa), John (Sara), Carrie (Mike), Daniel (Angie), Jenn (Mark) and Carl; her great-grandchildren, Brandie, Shelby, Brielle, Megan, Owen, Kalan, Andrew, Chelsea, Riley and Lauren. She was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1982; her parents, Nettie and Andrew Dobko; her three brothers and five sisters. She also leaves to mourn her sister Anne Kuspira of Yorkton and many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She leaves behind many friends who will miss her especially Lucille Lacroix. Veronica was born in Yorkton, SK on April 9, 1918. She was the second youngest of 11 children. She moved to Winnipeg as a young woman where she worked at the King George and St. Boniface Hospitals. She met her husband Fred and they were married on August 10, 1941. They had four children and later settled in St. James on Hampton Street. In later years she moved to Hamilton House and Metropolitan Kiwanis. Mom enjoyed people and was always helping out friends and neighbours. She enjoyed the years she worked helping her son Harry at Construction Catering. Her love for children was evident in the number of children she cared for over the years. She was the first President of the UCWL at Holy Ghost church. Many will remember her as a commentator on the Sacred Heart program. She volunteered at Oakview Place and could always be counted on at Halloween to play the scary witch at Hamilton House and later at Metropolitan Kiwanis. Mom loved playing cards and scrabble, especially with her son Harry who could seldom beat her. She was also the Bingo Queen. In the past few years, she also enjoyed her trips to the Casinos. She looked forward to her day program every week at Oakview, especially when bingo was on. Mom had a strong abiding sense of faith and had been a long-time member of St. Ann's parish where she was a reader and the Franciscan Friary. She was easily recognized anywhere she went as The Lady with the Hat. The family would like to thank the staff at Metropolitan Kiwanis for the wonderful care and concern they always showed Mom. Special thanks also to Dr. Wayne Van Horne and his staff for their care and compassion through many years. Mom always bragged she had the best-looking and greatest doctor in Winnipeg. Services will be held on Saturday, March 19 at St. Ann's Church with burial to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. At Mom's request, flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, donations may be made in Mom's memory to St. Ann's Church or the Franciscan Friary. Rest in Peace Mom VICHNAYA PAMYAT
