BRENDA CAROL (nee DAKIN) LAIRD 1938 - 2005 Brenda started her life journey at Bisset, MB which is nestled in virgin pristine country of The Great Canadian Shield . The gold mine had just opened and her father was the bookkeeper. She was the first born followed closely by a sister Myrna and later a brother Mark. School years began in the mining town but soon the family moved to Brandon for a few years then to Norwood (St. Boniface), where she completed her high school education. Brenda entered the Winnipeg General Hospital, School of Nursing, graduating in 1960. She soon spread her wings and found employment in Hawaii for a short time and then to the United States mainland where she had various nursing jobs in many places. It was in San Francisco, she met her husband Eugene and they were married soon after. Daughter Sloan and son Ross were born there. Nursing beckoned her again and she went for further education, first receiving her Bachelor of Nursing and later her Masters in Nursing . The family moved to Alpine, CA (San Diego area) and she enjoyed many years in public health. She had many hobbies, was a great homemaker and cook, active in her community plus treasurer of the Alpine Women's Club. Most of all, Brenda loved people, any size, shape, colour or creed and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She lost her battle to cancer, February 27, 2005 and although her aspirations were incomplete, she had a full and fruitful life. Her zest for life was admired by all who knew her.
