BYRON JOSEPH JOHNSON On March 16, 2005, just two months after losing Rose, his loving wife of 68 years, Byron passed away in his sleep at the age of 90. Byron is survived by son Don (Patti); daughter Bev (Les) Gillam; grandchildren Todd (Tamara) Gillam; Scott (Charlene) Gillam and his treasured great-grandchildren, Ruby and Parker Gillam. Byron was born in Radville, SK on August 4, 1914. After several moves his family settled in Lowe Farm. At age 19, he became the elevator manager for Western Canada Flour Mills (later Manitoba Pool Elevators) in Lowe Farm. Continuing with Manitoba Pool, Byron and Rose moved to Letellier and later, with their growing family, to Dauphin when Byron was promoted to travelling superintendent. In 1968, the family moved to Winnipeg, as Byron's travelling territory was in the Interlake area. After forty years with Manitoba Pool, Byron retired as Maintenance Superintendent in the head office in Winnipeg. Dad liked to curl and golf and was a regular at what Mom called The Liars' Coffee Club at Rossmere. All of us would like to thank the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home who treated Mom and Dad as family. In keeping with Dad's wishes, a private family service will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, a donation may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I had the honor of meeting Byron and Rose when I was employed at the Maples Care Home last fall. I was asked to help feed Rose in the dining room, and I remember Byron telling me he had lived in Dauphin and worked for MB Pool Elevators. Him and Rose were a very kind, friendly couple and I really enjoyed their company while I was a "guest" at their dinner table. I was saddened to learn of Byron's death, so soon after Rose had died just a few months before. God bless Byron and Rose. - Posted by: Linda Sear (Acquaintance) on: Mar 21, 2005
